Twain on Love and Writing

The frankest and freest product of the human mind and heart is a love letter; the writer gets his limitless freedom of statement and expression from his sense that no stranger is going to see what he is writing.

Mark Twain’s Autobiography, 1959 preface

Sometimes writing a book is like writing that love letter…write it as though no one is going to see it. Write what your characters truly feel and do not let worries of critique creep in. That can hinder a good book.
